The director of Deadpool reveals disappointed with how much money he earned from the making of the film. "I would have earned more with an episode of The Walking Dead!" Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool, revealed an anecdote about the making of the film starring Ryan Reynolds. A rather sad anecdote (certainly for him), which shows that all that glitters is not gold in Hollywood.

Tim Miller was commissioned to successfully complete the first chapter but did not return to direct the second or third. Since then, he has only worked on Terminator: Dark Fate and directed Borderlands (although, apparently, he would also prefer to forget about this last project). In an interview with Collider, Miller explained why, recently, he has dedicated himself more to production.

“Maybe you don't know this, but being a first-time director in Hollywood is not particularly lucrative. For directing Deadpool, I earned $225,000. I know that sounds like a lot of money, but for two years of work, it’s not. It’s not that I’m not grateful, I’m damn grateful, but that’s how it is when you’re a first-time director. My agent was like, ‘Dude, you could have made more money directing an episode of The Walking Dead!'”

Miller dispels some Hollywood myths: “I think a lot of people think that everyone makes millions and millions in Hollywood. That’s not always the case. I don’t want to sound ungrateful, because I’m grateful for the opportunity I’ve had. But the reality is different than what a lot of people think.”

Reflecting on his journey, Miller added: “I was 50 when I got the chance to direct Deadpool. Up until that point, I thought I’d never get the chance to direct a movie, even though it’s been a lifelong dream of mine.” After all, dreams can come true, especially if you live in Hollywood (and aren’t aspiring to direct episodes of The Walking Dead).
