My Happy Marriage Season 2 is on Netflix from January 6, 2025, with the second season. The Japanese anime, written by Akumi Agitogi and illustrated by Rito Kohsaka, has conquered a good portion of the public in recent years, climbing to the top of the most viewed products on the streaming platform. The story is set in mid-19th century Japan, amid the Meiji Renewal. In the first season, the sweet and shy Miyo Saimori, firstborn of a rich family, is given in marriage to the cold and harsh captain Kiyoka Kudo.
The girl's heart will slowly manage to melt this man, who only apparently is detached because he hides a beautiful and kind soul. My Happy Marriage mixes romance with fantasy: in fact, every family has a supernatural power that makes each of its members special. At first, Miyo believes she has none, but she soon discovers that she is the descendant of the legendary Usuba family through her mother, and she is gifted with a very particular and sought-after power: the ability to dream vision.
My Happy Marriage 2: The Netflix anime delves into darker territory
My Happy Marriage 2 opens with some threats for Miyo: on one side there is Kudo's family - who she meets for the first time - on the other there are the supernatural dangers that loom. Even in this second season, the Netflix anime continues to balance the romance element with fantasy. Miyo meets the father of her future husband, a kind and helpful man. The opposite of her future mother-in-law, a hostile and arrogant woman who treats her like a servant.
Always gifted with a good soul, the girl promises Kudo that she will do everything to please the woman. In moments like these, the dynamic between the two lovers is very clear: Kiyota loves Miyo as she is, for her kindness and goodness of spirit. However, the captain has other problems to manage with a potential demonic threat reported which risks damaging the Usuba dynasty – that of Miyo.
My Happy Marriage 2 thus introduces a season that promises to be more complex than the previous one. After getting to know the two protagonists and following their story, the Japanese anime tries to get them out of their comfort zone to enter a new and certainly darker area. The omen of Takaihito, the second prince of the imperial family, anticipates the beginning of an imminent tragedy for which Miyo and Kiyota will have to prepare.
My Happy Marriage 2: evaluation and conclusion
After only one episode, it is still premature to be able to judge My Happy Marriage 2, whose episodes (13 in total) will be released weekly on Netflix. The premises of this second season are still very positive, and raise the bar even higher. The relationship between Miyo and Kiyota, as in any self-respecting romance, will encounter complications not only from his family - it is already clear that the captain's mother is against their union - but also from external dangers. Furthermore, Miyo has just discovered her powers, so we expect a second season in which the young descendant of the Usuba will fully explore her abilities. The power of dream vision is the most sought after and the girl will have to go through a great personal journey to mature, become more courageous, and fully control her abilities.
